Getting there and around (check on the day)

Direct coaches (ALSA, and FlixBus on some days) from the Terminal Intermodal de Campanhã to Santiago's bus station, part of the Daniel Castelao intermodal station; about 3 h 30 to 4 hours. From there, the old town is a walk or a short city bus ride. Check the operator's timetable on the day. (By rail, the Porto–Vigo Celta has a coach section Valença–Vigo until April 2027, so the direct coach is simpler.)

Where to sleep

One night inside the old town (zona monumental), so the evening and early morning in the Obradoiro are on foot.

Three places worth it

The cathedral and the Apostle's tomb: open every day 07:00–21:00, free entry by the Platerías door; no backpacks allowed, and no visits during services.
The cathedral roofs (Cubiertas) guided climb: booked time slot, from the Pazo de Xelmírez on the Obradoiro (museum 10:00–20:00).
The Praza do Obradoiro at night and in the early morning.

What to cut

Arriving with a big backpack and expecting to take it inside the cathedral: it is not allowed. Leave the bag where you sleep first.

Day 1 — Porto to Santiago

Morning coach from Campanhã. Check in, then the cathedral by the Platerías door. Evening in the Obradoiro.

Day 2 — the roofs and home

Booked roofs visit in the morning, the old town, afternoon coach back to Porto.
