Best months: Our reading, not a source rating: March–June and September–October, for daylight. Note the Museu do Douro closes earlier from November to February.

Getting there and around (check on the day)

From Porto Airport, Metro Line E (violet) to the centre (about 30 min). Regional/InterRegional trains on the Linha do Douro leave from Porto São Bento towards Régua and Pocinho; Pinhão is on the line. Check the CP timetable on the day (the current one is valid since 5 August 2026).

Where to sleep

One night in Peso da Régua or Pinhão, both stations on the line, so you can leave the bag and walk.

Three places worth it

What to cut

Trying to reach Pocinho and back to Porto in one day as well as stopping in Régua and Pinhão. Pick Régua + Pinhão, or the full line, not both.

Day by day

Day 1 — Porto to Régua

Morning at São Bento: look at the tiled hall, then take a Linha do Douro train to Peso da Régua. Afternoon at the Museu do Douro (1 Mar–31 Oct 10:00–18:00; 1 Nov–28 Feb 10:00–17:30, last entry 15 min before closing; check on the day). Evening walk by the river.

Day 2 — Pinhão and back

Short train up to Pinhão. Look at the station tiles, walk the village by the river. Train back to Porto São Bento in the afternoon. If the timetable allows a longer day, ride on to Pocinho, the end of the line, and come back — check on the day.
