By: Está no Ir desk research. Days: 3 (2 nights). Origin: Porto (OPO) or Lisbon (LIS). Destination: Bordeaux (Place de la Bourse, Cité du Vin) and Saint-Émilion. Transport: flight, tram, train, on foot.

For: Wine-curious travellers who don't want to drive after a tasting.

Best months: Spring and autumn (Saint-Émilion tourist office). The Miroir d'eau is off for maintenance from November to April.

Getting there and around (check on the day)

Flight to Bordeaux-Mérignac (book far ahead or on a promotion). Tram line F (since 6 Dec 2025) runs from outside the terminals to Hôtel de Ville in about 35 min and on to Saint-Jean station (about 45 min); every 10 min Mon–Sat, 15 min Sun. TER Bordeaux–Sarlat line to Saint-Émilion station, then about 1.5 km / 20 min on foot to the village. Check on the day.

Where to sleep

Two nights in central Bordeaux; Saint-Émilion is a day trip (no luggage storage at its station or tourist office).

Three places worth it

Place de la Bourse and the Miroir d'eau (water effects only outside November–April).
Saint-Émilion's medieval village and the underground Monolithic Church (guided tour only, about 45–60 min; booking strongly recommended).
Cité du Vin (from 1 Nov 2026 to 3 Jan 2027: 10:00–18:00, Saturdays to 19:00, closed 25 Dec).

What to cut

Bringing the suitcase to Saint-Émilion: there is nowhere to leave it. And a château visit without booking.

Day by day

Day 1 — Bordeaux on foot

Flight, tram F to Hôtel de Ville. Walk to the Place de la Bourse and along the river.

Day 2 — Saint-Émilion by train

TER from Bordeaux Saint-Jean to Saint-Émilion, 20 min walk up to the village. Book the underground tour. Train back in the evening.

Day 3 — Cité du Vin and home

Morning at the Cité du Vin, tram F to the airport.
