Getting there and around (check on the day)

Transtejo Soflusa ferry Cais do Sodré ⇄ Cacilhas, about 10 minutes, frequent departures every day (weekend timetable changed on 8 June 2026). Check the live departures on ttsl.pt on the day.

Where to sleep

No night needed: a day out from a Lisbon base.

Three places worth it

The crossing itself: Lisbon seen from the Tagus in 10 minutes.
Elevador Panorâmico da Boca do Vento: a glass lift linking the riverside Jardim do Rio to Almada's historic centre (50 m climb), daily 09:30–23:30.
Cristo Rei sanctuary: the viewpoint over the river and the bridge (open daily; Oct–Mar 10:00–18:00, Apr–Sep 10:00–19:00, last ascent 20 min before closing).

What to cut

The Cais do Ginjal riverside path if Almada council notices say it is closed: it has had safety closures. Use the lift and the upper town instead.

Day 1 — across and back

Morning ferry from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas. Go to the Jardim do Rio and take the Boca do Vento lift up to old Almada. Walk or take local transport to Cristo Rei (check the route on the day). Back to Cacilhas and the ferry to Cais do Sodré before dark.
